Marcellus Blount '80

Marcellus Blount, passed May 2018.

Marcellus earned a PhD from Yale University in 1987.  His scholarly work in African American studies was credited with reimagining poetry, pop culture and black masculinity.  An associate professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University, where he started teaching in 1985, he served as a faculty fellow, director of the university's Institute for Research in African-American Studies and director of the graduate program in African-American studies.  He wrote many articles and co-edited the book Representing Black Men.  In 2006, he was Williams' Sterling Brown '22 Visiting Professor of English.  He also was a Williams Tyng administrator and a class associate agent.
